1+2=3

I completed this layout around the inspiration of a foam stamp I've had for a while but never used! It was included in a Lisa Bernson Gratitude mini album kit. I plan on completing the kit at the CKC in two weeks, so I thought I would practice on this layout. I also used a sketch from Frosted Designs.

Here's a close up of the details:

The 1+2=3 is partially stamped on a die cut with a wood vaneer heart attached. The die cut matched my cardstock, and I like how it's a subtle lift.

My Happy Place with Color Me Scrappy

June's first challenge at Color Me Scrappy is a good one! Using a purple color scheme--not many select purple on their layouts very often, at least I don't!

Here's the color scheme and the sketch to use with it:

Here's my layout for the challenge:

I had fun adding some extra purple to the cloth flower. It was off-white, so I misted it with some purple spray ink. I added the circle mask element with Memories Direct ink sticks, so I could control the colors.

All Star Son

There is a tough challenge on the Paper Bakery blog right now! It is a sketch with big banners along the top and the bottom.

It reminded me of baseball pennants! I keep a stash of baseball theme pattern papers which I thought would be perfect for this sketch:

I ended up using 9 different patterned papers on this layout! I think they blend well together with their edges inked.

Here's a close up:

I used mambi stickers that came with some of the papers above. Other baseball papers were from Best Creations inc.

Happy

This weekend I participated in the Frosted Designs' blog hop. This blog hop added a layout challenge! Whoo Hoo! The challenge is to use the following sketch and at least three items or techniques on the list.

 First, here's my layout:

From the list, I included Misting, Layering, Distressing, Inks, Die Cuts, Cardboard, Pattern Paper, and Dylusions Spray Ink.

I also included 5 brads for the Scrap Our Stash "All About Our Guys" challenge.

I added Queen & Company trending tape for the Love My Tapes "Masculine Layouts" with tape challenge.

To distress the papers, I used my Making Memories paper edge scraper. It is my favorite tool now! You just put the paper in the scraper slit and distress it to the level you want! You can put little nicks in the edge of the paper and it roughens it up just right, especially on boy pages! I also distressed the black arrow brads by sanding off some of the paint.

I misted the background page with Studio Calico Mr. Huey spray ink in Warm Calico and Dylusions white. On the brown layer, I only used the Warm Calico, and on the small hexagon I just inked the edges. Each of the cardboard stars and the torn cardboard is misted with the Dylusions white.

If you haven't completed this blog hop, you still have time! It runs until June 7th. It was a lot of fun to get a little messy with my boy layout and just see how many things I did on the list. I completed the layout without looking at the list, and just checked the things off afterwards! It is very easy to use at least three of the things on the list. I ended up doing 8!

Bee U-Ti-Ful

I've had this mist-able bee hive sitting my work table for quite a while, and I finally thought of a way to use it and convey meaning. It just adds a little touch of whimsy, which I like, but sometimes have a hard time using. For this layout, I used a 8.5 x 11 Page Maps sketch converted to 12x12.

Here's my layout:

and close ups:

I used my Cuttlebug hexagon embossing folder to create this beehive look on a piece of thin striped paper. I then applied Butter ColorSnap ink to bring out the pattern. My leaves behind the flower and butterfly in the corner is a paisley Sizzix die cut.

Here's the beehive mistable I finally got to use! I created the bees with a circle punch and Studio Calico wood vaneer hearts for wings.

Medals are a Boy's Best Friend

I ran across a quote for scrapbooking pages: "Baseball diamonds are a boy's best friend", but I wanted to scrap the pictures I took of the medal ceremony, not the game. It spurred me to think of gold is a boy's best friend and then the resulting final title: Medals are a Boy's Best Friend. Last year, JJ did the same thing when he got his medal: kiss it!

My format inspiration came from Paper Bakery's sketch:

I used a border of elongated circles and a long title in place of the circle rows. The 15 cent chipboard is for his age (15!). I loved putting together the little embellishments on this layout.

Thanks for stopping by!

Pancakes & Potatoes

Some of my son's favorite foods: Pancakes and Potatoes! A new place to practice public behavior is Omelet House. We love going there for their pancakes, crispy potatoes (like chips almost), pumpkin bread, or their famous omelets. JJ has a favorite booth where he can watch the cars go through the drive-thru McDonalds next door and the kitchen at the same time. I wanted to scrap these pictures right away, and I found just the right sketch on Page Maps.

I like how I could use random borders, trims, and tape to form a background. I threw in some new Basic Gray flair, Studio Calico wood vaneer hearts, and some old Queen & Company brads to add some pop and dimension.
My resulting layout:

Thank you, Ashley Horton, for the idea to use 3's upside down when I run out of E's for my titles! I really like how it looks!
